Founded as a haven for male channellers, the Black Tower today stands alongside the White, and Asha'man and Aes Sedai frequently work together. Meaning Guardian in the Old Tongue, the title of Asha'man is given to those who have risen through the ranks as Soldier and Dedicated, and who have earned the right to wear the sword and dragon pins.

The Black Tower is divided up into four Shari: The Dieb Shar, who, much like the Blue Ajah, each work toward their own causes; the Duadhe Shar, focused on knowledge and creativity; the M'taal Shar, the defenders of the Tower; and the Domare Shar, who focus on training Soldiers and Dedicated.
